I think they didn’t realize the guy mentioned the veloster N not just the regular veloster turbo. I would recommend the N version my man, it’s superior to the GTI, and I’ve sat in a normal veloster, I’m 6”3, and I found it plenty comfortable.
Headroom is disappearing across the board these days as short people extract revenge on us. One day soon we'll be left with a stark choice between pickups and minivans.
Hello Mary-Anne in Boston, the 2019 RAV4 Hybrid has a price premium of around $800 dollars. It adds a massive TEN mpg and accelerates more quickly as well so it is the obvious choice. It will be available in the Spring of 2019. Get the version with the smaller 17" wheels to maximize your fuel economy and smooth out those New England potholes. Did I mention an extra 10 mpg?
As a tall person, I will say avoid the Honda Civic, too. I traded one within 3 months after new purchase. It had absolutely no thigh support and although fun to drive, it was uncomfortable for long drives.
Safety and Reliability is the thing to look for when you buy a car. and Hyundai cars are good at it. They ranked higher than Toyota in 2018 JD power long term dependability list and almost all their line-ups are IIHS top safety picks. Hyundai Kia Genesis got 12 vehicles on that list, that's more than any other automakers. Fuel economy? The base price and long warranty evens them out. It's also notable that getting a better fuel economy from an SUV by puttin CVT into it is not worth it... After all, the gas price is lowest in a decade and that's why SUVs are prevailing
I test drove a Hyundai Santa Fe SEL 2.4 but ended up getting a Honda CR-V. I also liked the Mazda CX-5 better. There was nothing wrong with the Hyundai, it just wasn't exceptional and the mileage was not that good. I know the Tuscon would have been a more logical comparison but I wanted adaptive cruise control and the pricing on the Santa Fe was still competitive. For now, I think Hyundai is still more of a value brand than a premium brand. The best reasons to get a Hyundai are value and the long warranty.
Veloster 'N', what he asked about, has different seating compared to the regular Veloster, what you have. I haven't seen one review of the N Veloster where the reviewer say GTI is better. Its actually the opposite statement many times over. Search reviews and watch. Albert Biermann (engineer) is also over 6ft tall. Signed off and drove the N. I would test drive each. It's your $, buy what you want.
to answer the first guys question beyond buying the more "premium" bulbs, depending on where you live there are automotive modification shops that handle upgrading lighting systems. it can be a pricey though. beyond that if you have some experience/knowledge in wiring and how to work on cars, some of those shops i mentioned will prepare a headlight with the upgraded units you desire and then ship you the unit which you will have to install yourself. lastly the HID (high-intensity-discharge) lights she mentioned are something that can potentially be installed by a person with lesser knowledge in car modification however you need to make sure you are purchasing the right equipment. there are simple plug and play setups out there depending on your vehicle but keep in mind HIDs are very bright and HID bulbs are not specifically designed for the reflector setup and so they tend to spill light to a much greater degree than the standard halogen bulb and therefore ends up shining potentially blinding light into the eyes of oncoming drivers. whatever method you go with make sure you do some more in depth research online. there are plenty of resources out there.
I currently own a gen 5 gti. I'm a little taller than the people the people discussing the seating position. For me the gti has an excellent seating position. It takes a bit of adjusting to get comfortable, but once you're in there, it's great.
For the brother with the Elantra the best head Light bulbs bang for buck is Philips 100+, the crystal vision and 130+ thats H11 low , H7 highs then get ur head light aligned.. i have done PIAA's, Sylvania's, night hawks and for the price u'll get the better output per dollar plus give up the least amount of bulb life.. factory bulbs last longer but give up light output, after market ones wind the filament tighter to run hotter and brighter aslo may add other gases to get more light which trades some bulb life.. trust mi check out the Philips
I get 29-30average mpg in my 2020 Tucson AWD. Even with a mountain to go up and down every time I go somewhere. Yes I drive conservatively and don't speed over 5mph, but hey I consider that good. The RAV4 and other models have been known to inflate numbers or post numbers in "Perfect" conditions.
They just mentioned the Forester did not get the + from the IIS crash testing, but the Tucson did. So what is more important to them? That slight crash test difference or fuel economy? They seem to think fuel economy.
My wife and I both find the headlights of our 2019 Forester to be TOO bright. How on earth did it lose out in that one area? I can’t imagine anything in front of me being better lit than that. It’s uncomfortable as it is!
For headlights - watch milmast RUclips video. I replaced my car’s halogen headlights with LED and difference is day and night. New after market LED are very well made and beam pattern is same if not better. It was pretty much plug and play and new LED comes with everything you need and not very expensive. I don’t think CR tests after market lights (they should).
About headlights, dutch electronics company Phillips makes plug and play LED lights(module+bulb) for H4 andH7 bulbs fir about 150 euros. They have been tested by german magazin "auto, motor und sport" and found to be exeptional, but illegal due to europian legislation for maximum allowed illumination.they were too bright, but did not blind other traffic.
You guys are pretty wrong. Its not that hard to install aftermarket LEDs on a car. Yes you have to often get an adaptable led/fan unit but the cost is still generally under $50 on Amazon and the install isn't bad. The one real downside is since there's so much non name brand stuff from China, it's hard to be sure it's going to be quaity. My father put led headlights in his vase 3rd geb Prius and they work fine but the fan runs a little louder than he would prefer and the brightness isn't as good as the advertised lumens. It's still much better than the original headlights
Why do so many manufacturers still make safety systems an option, even in some very expensive vehicles? If Toyota can make them standard in even the cheapest vehicles, whats going on? When I shop for a new car for my kids, this will rule out a lot of cars that may otherwise have been on the list.
Just get the Toyota version in whatever category you are looking to buy. The obvious exceptions are the Yaris sedan made by Mazda, the 86 made by Subaru and the new Supra made from BMW parts by a third party in Austria - Magna Steyr.
I personally think all "safety systems" should be optional, certainly not Federally mandated, most safety systems are just making people worse at driving.
For upgrades in lighting, LED’s have recently made great strides in technology and being able to replicate the same bulb orientation, and by this can achieve significant results without blinding on-coming traffic. Check out Headlight Revolution’s channel for reviews.
Forgot to mention that in Boston, it snows, and the hybrid is the only one that comes with electric motors driving the rear wheels. So if she wants all wheel drive, she has to get the hybrid.
Waiting for the IIHS to test the 2019 Toyota Rav4 because the hybrid looks so great but the 2018 didn't do well on front passenger overlap test. Looking forward to your mileage test because Toyota is saying it'll get an average of about 40 mpg which quite an increase from the 2018.
@@rightlanehog3151 The Toyota PCS systems are false marketing and should be sued for selling a false sense of safety. ruclips.net/video/ooOz69CEtJ0/видео.html

There are some aftermarket led bulb replacements available for many vehicles. Be sure to ask if your vehicle needs an anti flicker module. Also, do not buy the cheapest.
I think they look better. Now I understand the elantra part the last elantra (2018) looked amazing and beautiful. But the new elantra refresh is growing on me and you just have to look at it all the time and get used to it. The new Tucson too me is better the same lights but better.
Lion Runner Since IIHS is not funded by the government and they are a non-profit organization like Consumer Reports, they can only afford to crash test so many vehicles. And since Crossover SUVS are more common and popular, they test those for that reason. Hopefully I answered your question!
I think most body on frames SUVs are older designs and therefore were engineered to older standards. I think only the Ford Expedition/Lincoln Navigator have been recently redesigned. 4Runner, Tahoe, Suburban, Armada, Sequoia are all based on platforms 5 years and older. BOFs also generally have a higher center of gravity and that brings down their rollover scores too.
Thank you @@gavin6090. But my doubt was a case like similar priced similar size Toyota 4Runner vs Toyota Highlander & Honda Pilot both crossovers gets Good small overlap rating vs the SUV get Marginal small overlap rating.
Do you mean worse safety ratings? If the body is a stressed member it’s naturally going to be stronger and thus absorb more energy in a crash. A ladder frame car has to make two different things strong.
My family has a 2017 hyundai tuscon with the 2.0L and i also notice the MPG isn't the greatest. My dad even has a toyota rav4 and it does much better. My wife loves it tho.
I'm not sure why people would consider buying from other low tier car manufracturers instead of Toyota just because Toyota can offer these standard safety features. I mean they are even starting to give blindspot monitoring and rear cross traffic alert while moving the limited trims to offer auto-brake for rear cross traffic as a luxury item which I assume would be standard later on as well. But as Toyota always gives value + reliability Mazda/Honda and poop Nissan need to step up. The korean cars are already more expensive then their japanese counterparts so they are out of the equation.
a lot of misinformation about headlights, any car owner that knows enough to change their own oil can change a car from halogen to LED or HID, upgrading isn't always about seeing further, it can be about upgrading the electrical system to be less taxing so it can run all the other electrical sh....tuff that is in a modern car.
Not all cars take kindly to having their headlights changed from one type of technology to another (like halogen to LED). If the PCM is expecting the power draw of a halogen and suddenly it's drastically lower due to an LED conversion, it can throw a code or go into an electrical "limp mode".
What do you mean your kids and his friends didn't fit in the Kona? Me, my husband and 8 kids managed to fit in our 79 Datsun B210 fastback, but then again were Mexican. Thanks for the thoughtful discussion, education about safety and advocating for all.
With Washington and Ottawa being asleep at the wheel where safety is concerned, thank goodness the IIHS keeps pushing the envelope.
It's not that they are asleep...they are bought by lobbyists.

As far as seating position for 6 foot + there is no difference. I think they were addressing the seating comfort for taller drivers mainly.
Agree. Hate the GTI suggestion. CR really has zero knowledge about sport fun cars.
The frustrations of liking smaller cars when you're 6' 4" tall. The Miata has been breaking my heart for years. Love it, but can't fit in it.

Hyundai always lie about MPG.
The RAV4 gets 11 MPG better combined, and costs $895 more than a comparable AWD model. You'll absolutely break even.
Correct,. All our RAV4 Hybrid comments must have posted within seconds of each other.
Rav4 looks shit, is horrivle, overpriced and shit generally
Hyundai is reliable and safer
Hyundai's controls are excellent. Less is more. Easy to read, easy to use.
